What is DC Comics?
Since 1935, DC Comics has been a pivotal creative
force in comics, from the introduction of
Superman--the character credited with launching
the fledging industry--through such modern
classics as THE DARK KNIGHT, WATCHMEN, and
KINGDOM COME. Its roster of heroes--including
Batman and Robin, Wonder Woman, Flash, and
Green Lantern--are as familiar to today's
readers as they were to past generations.
What is WildStorm Productions?
WildStorm Productions was created in 1992
and acquired by DC Comics in 1998. Creator
Jim Lee's WildStorm is home to a wide variety
of cutting edge superhero comics, including
THE AUTHORITY and GEN13. Imprints under the
WildStorm banner include Homage Comics, Cliffhanger,
and America's Best Comics (featuring a line
of comics created by Alan Moore).
What is Vertigo?
Vertigo was launched in 1993 to advance DC's
growing line of comics for mature readers.
At that time, the publishing line included
HELLBLAZER, SWAMP THING, and THE DOOM PATROL.
Vertigo remains on the cutting edge of the
graphic storytelling arts with such award-winning
titles as TRANSMETROPOLITAN, 100 BULLETS,
and AMERICAN CENTURY.
What is Paradox Press?
Paradox Press was created in 1994 as a showcase
for experimental formats and genres, including
a line of digest-sized graphic novels, Howard
Cruse's acclaimed coming-of-age story STUCK
RUBBER BABY, the BIG BOOK series, and Scott
McCloud's explorations of the art of comics,
UNDERSTANDING COMICS and REINVENTING COMICS.
What is the Will Eisner
Library?
In 2000 DC Comics launched the Will Eisner
Library imprint to celebrate and keep in print
this master storyteller's work. Will Eisner’s
acclaimed graphic novels and the first complete
chronological collection of THE SPIRIT newspaper
sections are among the Eisner treasures DC
Comics has published.
Why don't America's Best
Comics, Homage and Cliffhanger have their
own list pages?
These are imprints published by WildStorm
Productions, and as such are in the WildStorm
category.
When did WildStorm become
part of DC?
WildStorm was created in 1992 and was acquired
by DC Comics in 1998.
Did Will Eisner always
create books for DC?
No, Will Eisner began his career in comics
books in the 1930s creating comics features
for a short-lived magazine and then partnering
with friend Jerry Iger to form Eisner-Iger
studio. When the partnership ended in 1939,
Eisner joined the Quality Comics Group and
created a syndicated newspaper supplement
featuring The Spirit. The supplement would
be renamed The Spirit Section due to the popularity
of character. By the 1970s Eisner wanted to
use the comics medium for mature subject matter,
so he published his first graphic novel A
CONTRACT WITH GOD with Baronet Books in 1978.
He followed this successful endeavor with
several more innovative graphic novels published
through alternative comics publisher Kitchen
Sink Press. The Will Eisner Library was launched
by DC Comics in 2000.
Does this list encompass
all the DC collected editions and graphic
novel titles?
By no means. There are hundreds of titles
available amongst all of our imprints. This
is merely a collection of some of our most
popular backlist titles. It also does not
included books published after the CD was
made. For more information about our backlist
and upcoming titles, visit the DC Comics Web
site at http://www.dccomics.com.
Be sure to visit your local bookstore or comics
shop for a wide variety of our titles.
How do I purchase the titles
on this CD?
To find the graphic novels and collections
listed, call 1-888-COMIC BOOK to find the
comic shop near you or visit the Comic
Shop Locator Service online. Also, most
of the larger bookstore chains and many smaller
independent bookstores carry our books.
Are any of these titles
rare or out of print?
All of the titles listed here are in print
and available for purchase. None of them would
be considered "rare".
How were these titles chosen
for this list?
These titles were chosen for their popularity
among DC Comics' readership.
Can I print the covers
of the books included here?
Yes. Use the print function of your browser.
Can I print the interior
pages of the books?
Yes. Use the print function of your browser.
Why do the images look
fuzzy when I print them?
All the pages and covers are saved as 72dpi
JPEGs, a low resolution file optimized for
the screen, and not intended for print.
